During the David Njoku Celebrity Softball Game on Saturday afternoon at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, two locals of Northeast Ohio engaged in a fierce competition to win some hardware in the Home Run Derby.
When Cleveland Heights resident and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took the field, Willoughby native and former Browns running back Kareem Hunt had already hit ten home runs.
With 11 home runs, Kelce won the enormous Home Run Derby trophy.
Excited to see him back in Northeast Ohio, fans in the stands greeted him with yells of “Heights High!”
A softball game between Team Njoku and Team Garrett, captained by Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, took place after the Home Run Derby.
The members of Team Njoku included professional fighter Cody Garbrandt, Hunt, former wide receiver Josh Gordon, quarterback Deshaun Watson, wide receiver Amari Cooper, tight end Zaire Mitchell-Paden, reality TV star Ronnie Ortiz from Jersey Shore, wide receiver James Proche II, Browns running back John Kelly Jr., and Cleveland rapper Doe Boy.
Team Garrett included former Browns linebacker Mack Wilson Sr., running back Nick Chubb, wide receiver Elijah Moore, cornerback Denzel Ward, tight end Jordan Akins, former quarterback Jacoby Brissett, social media influencers Ross and Granny Smith, defensive end Za’Darius Smith for the Browns, WWE wrestler Johnny Gargano, and Kelce.
Ultimately, Team Garrett prevailed, defeating Team Njoku 20 to 5.
The event’s ticket sales proceeds will support a local organisation that focuses on young people in the area.
