Following the college graduation of their boys, Travis and Jason Kelce, Donna Kelce is thinking back on her divorce from her former husband Ed.
In an episode of The Martha Stewart Podcast, Donna, 71, talked about how she and Ed “worked together” to raise their NFL great boys.
Donna started to Stewart, 82, “It was after the kids were out of college” that they got divorced. “As a team, we worked together,” she said.
It is “very, very difficult to raise children on your own,” according to Donna, particularly if you have two sons who have aspirations of being professional athletes.
And how can you manage that on your own, given how active they were? Thus, we made the decision to stay married for the duration that the children lived in the house, and that is how things turned out, according to Donna.
Donna was told by Stewart that it was “so smart and so lucky” that she and Ed made that decision. They both agreed that raising children alone is “so hard,” and that Travis, 34, and Jason, 36, were fortunate to have their parents live with them until they moved out.
Everything Regarding Travis and Jason Ed and Donna Kelce, the parents of Kelce
Ed and Donna have been wed for almost twenty-five years. Travis and Jason were reared in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, prior to their sons attending the nearby University of Cincinnati to play football.
On February 06, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona, during Super Bowl LVII Opening Night presented by Fast Twitch at Footprint Center, mother Donna Kelce (C) offers cookies to her sons Jason Kelce (L), #62 of the Philadelphia Eagles, and Travis Kelce (R), #87 of the Kansas City Chiefs.
On an episode of New Heights featuring Jason and Travis Kelce, the pair disclosed that they had initially met while Donna was scheduled to go on a date with another man.
Donna made a stop at Fagan’s, an Old Cleveland Flats tavern, on her way to the date; Ed also happened to stop by for a post-work drink. After they started conversing, Donna never went to see the other man.
That evening, I was meant to go out with a guy. I never made it to the play that we were meant to see. Donna joked to her sons on New Heights, “It was a good play, too! Your dad and I talked forever!” I was quite eager to watch it.
Donna reassured Jason and Travis on their sons’ well-liked podcast that she has no animosity toward their father and will always value him highly. “I’m not against him. We’re still buddies today. On the podcast, Donna stated, “We get along great.”
“With you two, we were like a tag team. We had a ton of exciting activities to choose from. The other person would assist with the other child when one of you had to leave town. It was flawless.
“People move apart sometimes,” said Donna. When her sons asked her if she regretted becoming married to Ed, Donna said, “No, never, because I got you two.”
Kelce, Donna, and Ed discussed their decision to remain together for as long as they did in the 2023 Prime Video Sports documentary, citing their boys’ welfare as the main reason.
“It would have been a nightmare with the logistics, getting kids where they had to be and providing all the support if we had split up as we probably would have both preferred,” Ed said in the movie.
Donna said, “Just trying to keep it all together when you’re being a parent.” “It is difficult.”
