Thira, Thirassia, Aspronissi, Palea, and Nea Kameni are the islands that make up the island. They are in the southernmost part of the Cyclades.

One of the few active volcanoes in Greece and Europe is on the island of Santorini. There was a lot of volcanic activity that created the islands that make up Santorini. There were twelve big eruptions, about one every 20,000 years, and each one destroyed the volcano’s center, leaving a large crater (caldera). That being said, the volcano kept erupting again and again.
